The sale of fine leather goods from Dooney & Bourke — including purses, luggage, wallets, accessories and more — runs through the weekend at its headquarters in East Norwalk. This is the 30th anniversary of the much-anticipated sale.
The event — a sample sale that is not for the feint of heart — draws long lines of shoppers, searching for that perfect item at a surprisingly low price.
Designer Peter Dooney views it as an opportunity to give back to his loyal customers to buy items for themselves and as gifts for others, the company said. The memory of the "best buy I got at the sale" has motivated multi-generations of shoppers to participate in this holiday tradition.
The sale will take place at the Dooney & Burke factory at 1 Regent St. in Norwalk. Here are the hours:
- 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8;
- 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9;
- 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10; and
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.
Dooney & Bourke, launched in 1975, makes a variety of classic and contemporary handbags, purses, totes, accessories and luggage. The company uses the "finest raw materials and revived the time-honored techniques of old world leather craftsman," according to its website.
Many of the items bear the trademark "duck" logo or "D&B" motif. Shoppers at the tent sale find huge markdowns and sometimes one-of-a-kind sample items, Dooney & Bourke said.
"Inspired by a variety of classic bag shapes, ranging from mail pouches to saddle bags to early American military gear, we created the distinct blend of classic and contemporary style influences that has been the hallmark of every Dooney & Bourke collection," the company says on its website.
