Bar Taco Signs Lease For Restaurant In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Bar Taco, a Baja-inspired Mexican eatery, is set to spice up the Westport dining scene. The restaurant group recently signed a lease to open a new location at 20 Wilton Road on the west bank of the Saugatuck River, Mark Coe of Coe Consulting said Friday.

The beach-themed restaurant first opened in Port Chester, N.Y., in 2010. Last year, Bar Taco made its way into the state, opening a second location in Stamford. A third location has opened in West Hartford.

The restaurant is aiming to open next spring, Coe said.

Breaking from the feel of a traditional Mexican restaurant, Bar Taco serves up more than beef tacos. The menu includes baja fish, thai shrimp, lamb, duck and lobster. Of course, the usual suspects, including beef and pork tacos, are also on the menu.

Beyond tacos, the menu offers small plates, such as chicken or pork tamales, cheese quesadillas, gazpacho, shrimp ceviche and numerous side dishes. There is also a dessert menu.

Located in the National Hall complex behind BNY Mellon, 20 Wilton Road boasts large windows and overlooks the Saugatuck River. The space was most recently occupied by the former Peter Coppola salon and spa. The salon relocated to 616 Post Road E. in 2010 and changed its name to Vincent Palumbo Salon.

Bar Taco is one of three restaurants set to open in the National Hall complex. Moja, an Asian fusion/Brazilian restaurant, is under construction at 12 Wilton Road. The owners of Safita, a Middle Eastern restaurant in Fairfield, are planning to open a restaurant on the first floor of the old Vigilant Firehouse at 6 Wilton Road.
