"This has been a family business since 1971, and we are well-known for the quality of our picture frame design and manufacture as well as for the variety and quality of the crafts and artwork we exhibit and sell," Price told Daily Voice.

Price came to the business after graduating from the University of Connecticut with a degree in art history. The background both heightened his appreciation of art but also the ability and desire to communicate about it, he said.

"I have always been drawn to works of complexity and quality, and today our gallery has several unique exhibitions as well as a gallery full of jewelry, ceramics, blown glass and much much more."

An entire room is devoted to the graphic work of M. C. Escher, the Dutch artist known for his illusions and tiled pictures.

It is "the only permanent gallery of his work in the world," said Price.

Also unique is the gallery's "Artists' Bookplate Museum," which is a collection of small personal prints, often created to identify the ownership of books. The type of art was popular from 1880 to 1950, Price said.

"You won't find a collection like that anywhere else, either."

Display of customers' artwork and pictures in the gallery highlight the craftsmanship of the store's framework. The framers, said Price, have over 50 years experience.

Artists' Market Inc. is located at 163 Main St., Norwalk. For information, call 203-846-2550. Click here for the website.
