Connecticut Shoppers Found To Like Their -- Medical Supplies?

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Medical supply stores were the top retail store of Connecticut residents, according to a study published recently by The Huffington Post.

The Huffington Post collaborated with Yelp to calculate the percentage of a given type of shopping business relative to the total number of business listings in that state, according to a story on The Huffington Post.

Then, it compared those percentages with each type of store's representation nationwide and produced a list of the top 10 most disproportionally common stores in each of the 50 states.

Here are the most popular stores in Connecticut, according to the story:

  • Medical Supplies -- 368 percent higher than national average.
  • Flea Markets -- 282 percent higher than national average.
  • Toy Stores -- 245 percent higher than national average.
  • Newspapers & Magazines -- 238 percent higher than national average.
  • Appliances -- 236 percent higher than national average.
  • Gift Shops -- 232 percent higher than national average.
  • Nurseries & Gardening -- 219 percent higher than national average.
  • Comic Books -- 219 percent higher than national average.
  • Florists -- 205 percent higher than national average.
  • Bridal -- 203 percent higher than national average.
