STAMFORD, Conn. — Husband and wife Troy Burk and Victoria Gouletas have always discussed combining their love of running with work. They accomplished their goal last week when they opened Fleet Feet Stamford downtown.

Burk, a former compliance officer with KPMG, and Gouletas, who works as an attorney for a real estate development company, always expected to open a running retail store closer to retirement. But that changed after they had kids and wanted to spend more time with them.

Being runners, the two have been familiar with Fleet Feet Sports dating to their days in high school, and they decided to open up their own franchise in Stamford. Although there are more than 100 Fleet Feet stores across the country, theirs is just the second in the state; the other is in West Hartford.

“We are thrilled to represent Fleet Feet Sports in the Stamford area,” Gouletas said in a news release. “It’s been a dream of ours to work with Fleet Feet Sports because of its focus on family, friends, health and community.”

In addition to selling sneakers, shorts, and other running apparel, they will be getting to know their customers and their running needs. Customers will have their feet and gait analyzed so they can get sneakers that fit and won’t hurt them.

“You’re going to be seeing people running up and down Bedford Street,” Burk said explaining Fleet Feet Sport’s FITLOSOPHY method, “It’s a lengthy process, but it helps us get to know our customers and what their needs are so we can get them the right kinds of products.”

The store owners plan to be involved with the community, holding regular events such as “Pub Runs,” participating in local races and events, and offering training for people of all skill levels. To celebrate their opening, they will offer their first “No Boundaries: From the Couch to 5k” training for free. After this it will be $75 to take.

The shop is located at 168 Bedford St., and is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Find out more by visiting the store’s website or by calling 203-316-8700.
