"Every year I come here because Little Eric is the best place," said the Stamford resident, who was enjoying the bargains during the annual Greenwich Sidewalk Sales.
She was among the hundreds of people who took advantage of the annual sales event to pick up items that were marked down, in some cases significantly.
The four-day Greenwich Sidewalk Sales continue Saturday from 10 a.m.to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ann Spallone, district manager for Shoes 'N' More, used a megaphone to attract customers Friday morning. She said shoppers were a bit more hesitant Friday to buy even though many of the items for sale at the Greenwich Avenue store were marked down as much as 70 percent.
Spallone, who has worked there for 30 years, said the store has participated in the sidewalk sales for 15 years. It has been a boon for the store.
"It helps me push out my summer merchandise and then I am ready for winter," she said. "Right after this now, then we bring in our winter product."
She also noted that the discounted prices help to attract people who may have tight budgets and can't afford the regular prices.
"Like my customers who are from Port Chester, N.Y., and maybe can't afford me at regular season, they are able to afford me. It's like doing a good deed," Spallone said pointing to Italian made boots that are regularly $450 but have been marked down to $75.
Marcia O'Kane, president and chief executive officer of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, said the event was drawing large numbers of shoppers.
"This has been such a joy. Despite the rain yesterday people came out in droves with their umbrellas, dressed in their rain coats, with their rain boots," she said. "People are out with a mission to shop local and that is what our chamber's mission statement is."
Shoppers have told her that when they can, they shop at Greenwich stores instead of online, O'Kane said.
