Jack Spade Clothing To Open In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Downtown New Canaan shoppers looking for men’s clothing will soon have yet another option as Jack Spade, a men’s clothing and accessories store, opens its newest location Oct. 6 at 147 Elm St.

The location had previously the longtime home of Barbel Jewelry, which closed last spring.

The clothier chose to open in New Canaan because the town has “such a diverse group of professional clients who often commute into (New York City) to make their purchases …. and in some cases are already customers of Jack Spade,” said Austin Smedstad, a spokesman for Jack Spade.

Jack Spade has two locations in New York and one each in Chicago, Boston and Portland, Ore. It also has locations in London and Tokyo.

“We loved the idea of bringing a store closer to them that brings the urban aesthetic they are looking for in a charming, casual setting that is closer to home,” Smedstad said. “The neighborhood felt like a perfect fit.”

This is the second new clothing store bound for Elm Street. British clothier Jack Wills University Outfitters will open soon at the former Lang’s Pharmacy location.

New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tucker Murphy said she’s glad to have Jack Spade on board and hopes it will get involved with the chamber and its events.

Murphy said she’s also happy to have another vacancy in the downtown shopping district filled and is working to get tenants for two spaces on Main Street.
