Personal information that may have been compromised includes name, address, phone number and email address. The good news is it appears more sensitive information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, user names and passwords are all still safe, Business Insider reported.

The company says it has not seen any unusual consumer fraud as a result of the breach, Business Insider said.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statement regarding the massive data breach.

“Even as investigations continue, JP Morgan must prioritize the 76 million potential theft victims. The lengthy time taken by JP Morgan to identify the size and scope of this breach is astonishing and appalling," Blumenthal said. "This lag in discovery and disclosure raises questions about the bank’s commitment to putting protection of its customers over preserving its market performance. I urge JP Morgan to promptly notify everyone impacted by this attack, and to follow the lead of other institutions that have suffered breaches by committing to protect their customers through free credit monitoring and identity theft insurance."

He called the cyberattack a "most chilling reminder to date of how vulnerable our electronic infrastructure is to attack" and said it is a national security issue.
