Mayor Rilling Honored As Norwalk Hosts Small Business Day

NORWALK, Conn. – Mayor Harry Rilling has been chosen to receive the U.S. Conference of Mayors Partner America 2014 Small Business Advocate Award due to the efforts he has made to support the city’s small businesses.

The presentation will be at Small Business Day from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Community Room at City Hall.

All small business owners are welcome. The event is free to attend, and light refreshments will be served.

Elizabeth Stocker, AICP director of economic development, plans to speak about local programs and resources for small business owners. Sheila Hummel, from the Connecticut Department of Economic Community Development, will talk about the state’s Small Business Express Program.

Also present will be SCORE, SBA, Norwalk Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Business Development Center and the Connecticut Small Business Development Center.

Partner America is a public-private partnership created by the U.S. Conference of Mayors to help the city leaders provide resources and information to small businesses, in order for them to thrive locally and globally.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is a nonpartisan organization that incorporates cities with 30,000 or more residents. The country has around 1,400 such cities, each represented in the conference by their mayors. For more information, like the group on Facebook at facebook.com/usmayors.
