Pearl at Longshore will replace the former Splash Restaurant at the landmark site in town.
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to consent to the sublease providing for a first-class restaurant at the Inn at Longshore, First Selectman Jim Marpe announced in a statement.
In accordance with a provision of the master lease between the Town of Westport and Longshore Associates of Westport, the sublease between Longshore Associates and BNG Partners, (doing business as Pearl at Longshore) required consent from the town.
To introduce the restaurant’s concept and vision, artist renderings of the proposed renovated as well as sample menus were provided to the Board of Selectmen by BNG Partners, managing member Marc Backon of Westport and General Manager Antonio Ninivaggi.
“Pearl will bring back a waterfront restaurant experience to Westport all year around," Backon said. "The Mediterranean-style menu will be responsive to the food and atmosphere desires of today’s diners, including a specific golfers’ menu during the season.”
Due to substantial renovations necessary to update the current space and make it more upscale, it is anticipated that the restaurant will open late 2015.
“I am pleased that the space will be occupied by a first-class restaurant run by experienced and dedicated operating managers and local investors," Marpe said. "While the restaurant will not be in operation this summer, I firmly believe that the wait necessary for the proposed renovations will be well worth it. I am confident that the dining experiences at Pearl will be enjoyed and remembered for years to come.
"The consent of this sublease is another step in our continuing efforts to improve and enhance one of our town’s jewels. We remain deeply committed to providing an enjoyable, family-friendly Longshore Club Park experience for all Westporters.”
Rory Tagert, president of Longshore Associates, the manager of the Inn at Longshore, explained how BNG Partners was selected as the replacement for the space formerly occupied by Splash Restaurant.
“The primary reasons for selecting BNG Partners were that they are local, their investors represent the community and they brought strong restaurant experience,” Tagert said.
