The New Canaan store will be located at 21 Forest St. Pet Valu operates a number of stores in the area, with locations in Norwalk, Ridgefield, Darien, Stamford, Trumbull and Danbury.

Since its first store opening in the U.S., Pet Valu has become one of the largest pet retail operations in North America. The milestone is especially significant given that Pet Valu’s footprint is currently limited to the Northeast and Midwest, operating in only 12 states.

Pet Valu credits its success to its partnerships with animal shelters, adoption services and welfare groups, as part of the company’s mission is to help local pets in need. Each store partners with at least one local animal welfare organization. The new Pet Valu store in New Canaan is partnering with Strays and Others, which has helped facilitate adoptions for homeless pets for over 20 years.

Pet Valu’s recent Thanks for Giving fundraiser in November raised a total of $178,165 for local animal shelters, marking a $40,000 increase over what was raised in 2015. Likewise, Pet Valu’s other fundraising activities – including America’s VetDogs, Patriotic Pets (U.S. War Dogs), Come Clean for Cancer, adoption weekends and litter drives – saw significant increases in donations. Fundraising efforts totaled $1.9 million for 2016.
