When Hugh Hefner published the first issue in 1953, his goal was to liberate sexual freedom during a time when the country was much more conservative.

Last year, Playboy.com was relaunched as a safe-for-work website, with articles, videos, and picture of clothed woman. The website sees tens-of-millions of visitors a month, according to Playboy.

In a statement, Playboy admits it is taking a risk, but reminds readers that the first issue published in 1953 was also considered a risk.
