REDDING, Conn. -- A Redding company's invention to make swimming safer for children is getting national attention after being featured on Yahoo News.
The Wahooo Swim Monitor System was implemented at summer camps at the Wilton Y after a classmate of co-founder Dave Cutler's daughter drowned in a local lake, despite the fact that there were lifeguards and camp counselors watching.
The New Canaan Y has also installed the Wahooo system.
The Wahooo Swim Monitor System implements a headband, which they hope to coin as "the bike helmet of swimming," that sets off an alarm on shore when a child's head is underwater for longer than 30 seconds.
