Sky Zone, a national indoor trampoline park franchise, just opened its doors in a converted 40,000-square-foot warehouse building on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Norwalk.

Though the jumping is geared toward those ages 5 to 18, adults can participate in special sky fit aerobic fitness classes on trampolines, too.

“It’s something new. It’s fun,” Sky Zone Norwalk franchise partner Edward Kim said. “You don’t even know you’re working out because you’re having so much fun just jumping.”

Each experience on the trampoline is good exercise for your legs, upper body and core. “Every time you jump on a trampoline, it’s like doing a little mini-crunch,” Kim said.

The facility also offers a “chill zone” for parents, with tables, couches, massage chairs and free wi-fi to enjoy while the kids go bounce. Kim said the thinking behind the space is simple: “If the parents are comfortable, then the kids are going to stay longer.”

Activities within the massive open warehouse-style space include basketball, dodgeball, and, of course, jumping — all on trampolines.

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, who attended the facility’s ribbon-cutting with state Sen. Bob Duff, said Sky Zone provides another activity for young people to enjoy in the city.

“This certainly presents an opportunity for a family to get together and come down on a Saturday afternoon, come down on a evening,” he said. “I think it's also great for corporations,” pointing out that Sky Zone would be a good place for team-building exercises.

Sky Zone created and built the world’s first all-walled trampoline playing court. The court concept was awarded a U.S. patent because the design was so unique, according to the company.

The company has 134 franchises open across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

Kim, who lives in Weston, is also the franchise partner of a Sky Zone location in Bethel. He said he hopes to open another location soon, but he would like to focus on the new Norwalk location for now.
