Stamford's Fortina Invites All To 'The Pizza Surf Club' In Harbor Point

STAMFORD, Conn. — When the owners of Fortina in Stamford opened their outdoor patio for the first time recently, they decided to take an unusual approach.

“We wanted to do something different,” Christian Petroni, one of the restaurant’s owners, told the Daily Voice. “We could very easily turned this into your normal patio [by] serving the food from downstairs, but we wanted to try something different and keep it fun and fresh.”

So they founded the Pizza Surf Club. Different from a traditional outdoor experience — and no membership required — bar-goers exchange tickets for food that is served on the patio instead of ordering off a traditional menu.

Creative fare, including a unique take on chicken al pastor served in a Doritos bag, is available for purchase. Diners can also indulge in provolone and parsley sausages on a King’s Hawaiian rolls.

Of course, pizza is also on the menu. Petroni said it will debut its square pizza slices on the patio.

The basic idea behind the menu, according to Petroni, is creative experimentation. “It’s kind of whatever we are in the mood to be doing. It will be mostly pizzas and a couple of … specials that either rotate or come back.”

The club offers desserts in addition to the dinner specialities, including funnel fries doused with a generous dose of Nutella. While munching on pizza and snacks — or those chocolate-hazelnut fries — bar-goers can mingle around high standing tables.

Approximately 100 people can be accomodated on the patio, according to Petroni. It is open from noon to close Thursdays through Sundays and 3 p.m. to close Mondays through Wednesdays.

“This is meant to be a great communal space where people can hang out, have a drink, have a snack, maybe go downstairs have dinner, come back upstairs,” Petroni said. “We want people to utilize our restaurant as a meeting place and what’s beautiful about the rooftop is its turned it in to that.”

Fortina, which opened its doors last fall, is located at 120 Washington Blvd. in Harbor Point. For more information, visit its website here.
