The Famous Walter's Hot Dogs Plans Summer Opening In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- After 98 years in one location, Walter's Hot Dogs, the iconic stand in Mamaroneck, N.Y., known for its cherished family recipe, is expanding -- and coming to Stamford.

This is the second big announcement for the family-owned company which earlier this year said it would open a sit-down restaurant in White Plains as well as a third food truck.

"The right opportunities came along, in locations we loved, where we felt we could bring the Walter’s experience to more people," explained Katharine Warrington Woodward, a granddaughter of Owner Walter Warrington.

"After having our food trucks all over Westchester and Connecticut the past two years, we were really able to see where the biggest demand was and where a second and third location would work best.

"We are so excited to bring a piece of Westchester to Stamford."

The new Harbor Point spot, located in the space by the fountain in Commons Park previously occupied by Mr. Frosty’s and The Hut, will be a Chinese pagoda-shape just like the original and will have order and pick up windows. All customers will be able to order outside, like they do in Mamaroneck, and sit outside in the park.

The menu will be the same with the stand's famous hotdogs (a DVlicious winner in Westchester), a blend of beef, pork and veal, split down the middle and grilled to golden brown perfection in a secret sauce. The buns are toasted to a crisp and the dogs are then nestled inside and slathered in housemade mustard.

Curly fries, waffle fries, fried potato puffs, homemade hand-scooped ice cream, milkshakes, Italian ices and funnel cake fries dusted with powdered sugar are also on the menu.

And for those who follow the food truck, there will be the addition of the Puffy Dog, a hot dog served with fried and smashed potato puffs in a bun.

To make things even better, the location will be an Uber Eats delivery.

Stamford Walter's is set to open by early to mid-August. Go to www.waltershotdogs.com/ for more information.
