NEW CANAAN, Conn. Vicki Wray and Ron Jaco have dined at most New Canaan restaurants and enjoyed their time. So its no surprise that the North Stamford couple were back downtown to get a few more bites.
We love good food and were excited to come out and sample some good food, said Wray.
Samples aplenty were available on Thursday as hundreds of visitors participated in the second annual New Canaans Taste of the Town Stroll, the kickoff event for this years New Canaan Restaurant Week.
Thirty-two restaurants and stores participated in the stroll with visitors getting their stroll maps stamped in order to become eligible for a raffle prize. Along the way, restaurants set up tables with small samples of food and drinks.
Its a nice event and a chance to see different places, said Carla Lucey of Wilton, who was impressed by the frozen yogurt at Red Mango.
We just want to try it all, said Cissy Van Ingen of Darien, who was joined by three friends who all received word of the Stroll from New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tucker Murphy. Its a good day to see whats new in New Canaan.
Pat and John Ireland of New Canaan began their evening out tasting a pickled blueberry and cream cheese mousse being offered outside of Elm, the towns newest restaurant. Its our first stop. Its good so far, John Ireland said.
The event was also a charitable endeavor as visitors dropped off non-perishable food for the New Canaan Food Pantry.
Restaurant Week runs from Friday to next Thursday with specially priced prix fixe lunch and dinner menus at 13 participating New Canaan restaurants. The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce began Restaurant Week last year as a way to attract more people to the downtown area.
