The Inn hosted an open house Tuesday with the theme "We're Here to Stay." The Westport Inn is the only hotel in Westport and was built in 1960, with a second building added in 1980 and renovations completed in 2011.

Last year, the owner had proposed tearing down the structure and constructing a five-story, 200-unit housing development with some units designated as affordable housing, which drew some controversy in town.

That plan was put aside in March of this year when the property was purchased by Stamford-based Building and Land Technology for $14.5 million. BLT, which also owns the Nyala Farms complex, announced after the sale that it would keep the property a hotel.

"We're a very social hotel," Westport Inn Sales Manager Deborah Salsman said at Tuesday's open house celebration. "Tonight's our way of saying thank you to the community for keeping us the landmark we've been since 1960."

The hotel has 117 rooms, including bridal, family and luxury suites. There is a 3,200 square foot ballroom, a board room for corporate meetings, a comedy shop and a pool. The Inn also holds the Bistro B restaurant, and regularly hosts weddings, bar mitzvahs, corporate events and other social gatherings.

Salsman said that the hotel has undergone some refurbishments, including repainting, concrete work, landscaping and improvements to the ballroom and pool. She said that the new owners are committed to making continue making improvements to better suit the needs of its guests.

"We've done quite a lot, and there's still a lot more to come," she said.
