It will appeal to the sensibilities of most New Englanders, with a facade making it look more like a residential building than a storage space

Amenities will include a 24-hour security and customer service detail. There will be solar power in the climate-controlled facility where you can also store cars, boats and RVs.

Hollow Tree Self Storage announced they've broken ground at 131 Hollow Tree Ridge Road.

The site will have an office and nearly 1,000 climate-controlled units of various sizes.

“We look forward to bringing this beautifully constructed project and much-needed service to the community,” said John Hertz, a developer on the project.

Designed by architect, Chris LaVigna of LaVigna Associates, the building will harken an old New England mill building, and its central office draws inspiration from a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse, according to the announcement.

The building's office will have a small-scale, residential facade so storage units will not be seen from the road.

“Our goal was to create a tasteful design that would complement the character of Darien,” said LaVigna.

“We wanted to avoid the harsh industrial look common to prefab metal storage buildings in favor a natural color pallet with soft, sandy stucco walls, a well-articulated façade and elements such as pitched roofs and shade trellises to add depth and interest.”

The facility will have a gated perimeter with electronic access, state-of-the-art surveillance system, and property managers on site to provide the 24-hour security and customer service.

A solar carport is where customers can store their boats, RVs and other vehicles. Its energy will be used to power the facility.

You will be able to drive up to larger units and access smaller ones by elevators.

Because the building will be climate controlled, wine and cars can be stored, along with museum quality items.

And good news for a select number of local commuters. There will be 16 commuter parking spaces available for lease with easy access to the Noroton Heights train station.
