The incident occurred in Centereach at 8:10 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1 near the Shell Gas located on Middle Country Road.

According to Suffolk County Police, the 49-year-old man was driving a vehicle, with three passengers, into the entrance of the gas station as Matthew Ulloa, age 18, of Ronkonkoma, was jogging westbound past the entrance.

Ulloa yelled at the driver and continued jogging westbound on Middle Country Road. The driver then drove into the gas station, pumped gas into the vehicle, and then drove it back out to the roadway, also heading westbound, police said.

When the vehicle approached the jogger, the driver parked and got out of his vehicle to confront Ulloa. A physical confrontation ensued, and Ulloa stabbed the man 11 times with a knife, police added.

The victim was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Following an investigation, Ulloa, 18, was charged with assault.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, Sept. 2.
