Runners Lacing Up for 5-Miler

Runners will take to the starting line Saturday in the second event of the 33rd annual Lightfoot Summer Road Racing Series. The 5-mile race begins and ends at Cranbury Elementary School. It starts at 8 a.m.

The Lightfoot Series is comprised of six races, including distances of 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 miles. It concludes with the Sam Elpern Memorial Half Marathon in September.

In addition to overall top male and female finisher awards, each of the Lightfoot races offers age group awards, from 14 years old and under up to 70 years and older, as well as in the wheelchair category. Trophies will also be awarded to series winners and to those who compete in or help out at all six events.

"The Lightfoot Summer Series continues to grow, attracting runners of all ages from Norwalk and beyond," said Don Capone, president of the Lightfoot Running Club. "It is more than just a race series. Thanks to the generous support of the Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department, volunteers and local sponsors, it has truly become an event for the entire community."

Runners are encouraged to pre-register. Registration for each race is $7. The entry fee for 14 and under for each race is $5 (except for the Sam Elpern Half Marathon). The Sam Elpern race requires a separate registration, which is $15 by Sept. 8, $18 on race day. Online registration is available for all races. Water stops and post-race refreshments will be available to all participants.
