Children with ADHD often have difficulty making and keeping friends. Do they truly not understand how their actions impact how their peers might feel about them (perspective taking), or are they not able to apply their social knowledge in real-time due to the impact of executive functions deficits (impulsivity, weak planning skills, challenges, distractibility)? Dr. Jeffrey DeTeso and Dr. Maryellen Page will explore the question of whether ADHD children lack social competencies (knowing what to do), the executive functioning skills to 'do' what they 'know', or both. Strategies and interventions for supporting children with ADHD socially will be shared.
