Scarsdale, Did You Know...?

A lot of people drive by the decaying mansion on Gatehouse Road and wonder who used to live there and what is its' story.

In fact the dilapidated, red brick, white-pillared mansion that stands as an eyesore among the well-kept Scarsdale abodes on Gatehouse Road was once home to Louis Marx, an American toy tycoon.

This seemingly abandoned structure was once a pristine Georgian- style mansion with 25 rooms, nine fireplaces, 14 baths, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a paddle court and a four-car garage built on a 20.5 acres, according to a 1982 New York Times article.

Louis Marx and his brother, David, owned Louis Marx and Company.  Marx left behind toy collectibles and a mansion of yesteryear when he died in 1982. Hopefully one day the story will get picked up and continued at this previously fabulous home.
