'Tween Kart Racer Triumphs Yet Again

STAMFORD, Conn. Twelve year-old kart racer Tazio Torregiani is off to a speedy and successful start to the racing season. Recently, at the WKA Divisional New Jersey Sprint Series, he raced at the fast and extremely long kart track at NJ Motorsport Park in South Jersey.

Although he did endure one of his worst crashes here several races ago, young Torregiani, a resident of Stamford, admits this is among his favorite tracks, as it's also home to some of his best wins. Proving that fact, he won again here in the "Cadet" class last weekend.

His winning race featured several lead changes in the form of bumpdrafting -- when two vehicles align in a close group to reduce the effect of drag by exploiting the lead car's slipstream. Torregiani grabbed the lead from the pack with only a few turns to go and defended his lead all the way to a first place finish.
