Twin No-Hitters Send Riptide to Ruth Final

NORWALK, Conn. -- Amy Hurd and Ryan Lajoie pitched back-to-back no-hitters to send the Norwalk Riptide 14-and-under softball team to the Babe Ruth State Finals Sunday in New Milford,.

The Riptide bested Cheshire 20-1 in game 1, then defeated host team New Milford 17-0.

In game 1, Amy Hurd recorded 10 strikeouts, three walks and no hits. Cheshire's only run scored when a runner beat a throw home from short. Katelyn Spielman led the charge with three hits, and Tori Dugan, Becky Stefanatos, Mallory Rochefort, Mia Grenier and Nicole Bonanni added two hits apiece.

In game 2, Ryan Lajoie recorded seven strikeouts, three walks and no hits against New Milford. Leslie Garcia collected three hits to lead the Riptide offensively. Stefanatos, Rochefort and Lajoie added 2 hits apiece.

The Riptide returns to New Milford Sunday for the 14U State Final at noon.  It will face the winner of the Cheshire/New Milford game.

The Riptide won the 12U state title last year as 12-year-olds.
