STAMFORD, Conn. Stamfords Fight the Flu campaign launched Tuesday. The 13th annual effort by the citys Department of Health and Social Services and Stamford Hospital will urge everyone to get a flu shot, even if they usually stay healthy.
By vaccinating you, youre protecting me, said Dr. Michael Parry, director of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Stamford Hospital. Parry, who is over 65, said even people who are not at high risk should get flu shots so they dont pass the virus on to people who are at risk.
High risk people include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions and people over 65, a press release said. Those who fall into one of those categories are less likely to have the vaccine work as well, Parry said.
The vaccine is $30, the release said, $40 for a special, more potent shot. Last year, about 11,000 people received the flu vaccine from the campaign.
Vaccinations will be available at the following times and locations:
? Stamford Government Center lobby, 888 Washington Blvd.: Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-noon, and Thursdays, noon-2 p.m.
? Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court: Mondays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays, 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon.
? Stamford Plaza, 2701 Summer St., Tuesday, Oct. 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
? Optimus Fairgate Community Health Center: Tuesdays to Thursdays, noon-5 p.m. Oct. 11-13, 18-20, 25-27.
? Optimus Stamford Community Health Center: Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon, Oct. 22, 29, Nov. 12, 19, Dec. 10.
