Tuckahoe High School Rallies for Athletes

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – The Tuckahoe High School gym was wall to wall orange and black, and it wasn't about Halloween. Decked out in the tiger colors, the entire school came out to support the student athletes who will play in Saturday's Homecoming games.

Everyone from the Tuckahoe Tiger, the school mascot, the band, the cheerleaders, teachers and coaches to the Homecoming King and Queen, Michael Walker and Victoria Scotten, were on hand.

Although rain cancelled the scheduled parade and bonfire, the bad weather did nothing to dampen the school spirit, with the kids stomping their feet and cheering each team, including the tennis team, the volleyball team, the soccer teams, the football teams and the cheerleaders, all of whom will have a Homecoming game on Saturday.

"We are ready to win," said John D'Arco, the varsity football coach.

Walker and Scotten spoke about the pep rally and about being chosen Homecoming King and Queen.

"It's a moment I will never forget," said Scotten.

Walker, a member of the Tigers basketball team, said he was surprised that he was selected.

"It's a fun memory," he said. "It's great that it happened right before my first basketball team practice next month."

Games start at the high school at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The varsity football team's game will be played under the lights beginning at 6 p.m.
