GREENBURGH, N.Y. It was recently announced that the Town of Greenburgh has added 11 public meetings to discuss the 2012 tentative budget, each centered around a specific section.
The controversial 2012 budget has been ill-received by some residents who allege that the town's money is being allocated to the wrong departments, and that vital services are being cut in favor of outwardly-optimistic ones.
In addition to the newly-added department-focused meetings, which will take place over the course of three weeks, the town board will also hold a public hearing on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the entire budget.
The town has two tentative budgets one for the entire town, including the villages referred to as the "A Budget," and one for Unincorporated Greenburgh the "B Budget. The A Budget is $15.6 million, a $100,000 increase from 2011. It meets the tax cap, has an increased tax levy of 2 percent and an increased tax rate of 4.6 percent. The B Budget is $66.6 million, a $1.4 decrease from last year. Its tax levy is up by 2 percent and the tax rate is up by 3.3 percent.
The following schedule details the meetings that the town board has planned with each of the department heads. The public is invited to attend. The meetings will all be broadcast on Greenburgh Public Access TV and online.
Nov. 22 The police department at 9:30 a.m., the tax receiver at 11 a.m., and the comptroller at 11:30 a.m.
Nov. 29 The department of public works at 9:30 a.m., the town clerk at 10:30 a.m., purchasing at 11 a.m., the Theodore D. Young Community Center at 7 p.m., and the parks and recreation department at 8 p.m.
Dec. 6 The courts at 9:30 a.m., the building inspector at 11 a.m., and the library at 7:30 p.m.
