Children Make Arts And Crafts For Mom In Tuckahoe

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – A few lucky Tuckahoe moms will be getting special Mother’s Day gifts on Sunday.

Several Tuckahoe children made their way to the public library on Tuesday to complete some special Mother’s Day arts and crafts with children’s librarian Ellen Tannenbaum.

The children – who were between 5- and 10-years-old – made small homemade craft flower boxes, which they then decorated; colored a small Mother’s Day portrait and completed mazes, puzzles and other games in the children’s room at the library.

Tannenbaum said that the arts and crafts program was part of a monthly program for that age group. During other weeks, the children participate in book clubs, the “Paws and Tales” reading program and other activities.

“If we’re going to celebrate a holiday, we do something that’s universal, and everyone celebrates Mother’s Day,” she said. “A few of the kids felt that they were too old to do the craft, but I’m sure they’ll be back with us next week.”

The Kid’s Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. on May 13, and children can read to therapy dogs at the same time on May 20 in the library. All programs are open to children between the ages of 5 and 10.
