STAMFORD, Conn. The development of the United States is on display in the Stamford Museum & Nature Centers latest exhibit, Centuries of Progress: American Worlds Fairs 18531982.
Regardless of differences in place and time, these fairs had something in common: they presented our nation within an unstoppable stream of progress, one in which inventions and new ideas of the present only foretold even more awesome ones in the future, said Rosa Portell, curator of collections and exhibitions at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.
Photographs and other items are on display that show what the World's Fairs encompassed, starting with the 1853 Crystal Palace exhibition in New York up to the 1982 fair in Knoxville, Tenn.
The exhibit is on display until March 18 in the Bendel Mansion Museum Galleries. It is free to visit with gate admission: adults $10; seniors (65+) $8; students (18+ with valid ID) $6; children (4-17) $5; and children (3 and under) free.
The Bendel Mansion is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
