Man Killed In Millbrook Crash Involving State Trooper ID'd

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Brooklyn man has been identified as the victim in a crash with a New York State trooper from the Poughkepsie barracks that took place on Friday, Oct. 14, as the officer was responding to an incident at Millbrook High School, according to the New York State police.

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Sharon Turnpike and Route 44 in Washington.

Trooper Cody J. Vetter, a four year veteran of the State Police, was traveling eastbound on State Route 44 with emergency lights and sirens activated when he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle operated by Warren C. Corbitt, 45, of Brooklyn. The collision took place at the intersection of State Route 44 and Sharon Turnpike in the Town of Washington, police said.

Corbitt was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

The trooper was transported to Vassar Hospital for an evaluation and was released with minor injuries, police said.

Vetter was responding to assist the Village of Millbrook Police Department after a report of a subject with a knife at the Millbrook High School varsity football game when the accident occurred, state police said.

The crash was reconstructed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the State Police by calling 845-677-7300.
