Maritime Aquarium Schedules Kids Summer Camp Programs

NORWALK, Conn. -- There's still time to sign your kid up for summer camp programs at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk.

Heading to the beach to encounter crabs and other creatures is just one of the many activities for kids participating in The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s summer camp programs, which run the weeks of June 22-26 through Aug. 17-21.

The programs, which begin Monday, June 22,  give kids hands-on activities and experiments, observations and interactions with the animals, IMAX movies and outings aboard the aquarium's new research vessel. 

The 2015 summer programs are:

  • June 22-26 – “Junior Aquarist” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist I” (ages 9-12).
  • July 6-10 – “Shark Safari” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist I” (ages 9-12).
  • July 13-17 – “Wacky Science” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist II” (ages 9-12).
  • July 20-24 – “Junior Aquarist” (ages 6-8) and “R/V Oceanography” (ages 9-12).
  • July 27-31 – “Shark Safari” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist I” (ages 9-12).
  • Aug. 3-7 – “Sound Art” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist II” (ages 9-12).
  • Aug. 10-14 – “Ocean Explorers” (ages 6-8) and “Junior Marine Biologist III” (ages 11-14).
  • Aug. 17-21 – “Sound Art” (ages 6-8), “R/V Oceanography” (ages 9-12) and “Junior Marine Biologist III” (ages 11-14).

The cost for each week is $450, or $400 for aquarium members. Each session meets from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and pre-care is available from 8:30-9:30 a.m. for an additional $85 per week, or $65 for members. Extended care from 4-5:30 p.m. is $170 per week, or $150 for members. Financial aid is available.

Health exam forms are required of every camper. The program is a Connecticut state-certified camp.
