FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – A two-day series of workshops to be offered this month will focus on prevention and identification of child sexual abuse and assault.

The first event, Communities that Care: Understanding and Reporting Child Sexual Abuse, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St., New Canaan.

Designed by the Stamford-based Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education and geared toward professionals who work with children in lower Fairfield County, the event is sponsored by New Canaan Community Foundation.

Attendees will learn about new legislation surrounding reporting requirements and mandated reporters, officials said. Also on the agenda will be how to identify, prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.

Opening remarks will be given by Robert Mallozzi, first selectman of New Canaan, and Cynthia Gorey, executive director of New Canaan Community Foundation.

For more information call 203-348-9346.

The month’s second event, Social Media, Sexting and Our Children: What Parents Needs to Know, is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Masonic Club of Darien, 354 Post Road, Darien.

The workshop aims to arm participants with an overview of information about popular social media and how kids are using it and will help clarify where and how social media, sexual harassment and sexual assault intersect.

Parents also will learn tips on how to have proactive discussions around a challenging topic to keep their children safe.

To reserve a seat in the workshop, call Anthony Simari at 917-881-4403.
