“We’re going to be strolling around,” said Tucker Murphy, executive director of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. “It’s going to be a fun, fun night.”

The Holiday Stroll, taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, is the official kickoff of the holiday season for New Canaan and its downtown merchants, many of whom have decorated their storefronts for the occasion. Residents and others are invited to visit downtown stores to shop and to get into the holiday spirit. The Stroll will feature a visit from Santa Claus at about 6:30 p.m.

The evening will also include Christmas caroling and other musical performances at the new popup park at Elm Street and South Avenue. Among the performances will be “Two Little Snowflakes” by Magical Music For Life.  The performance was written as a Christmas poem inspired by the importance of treasuring friendship after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The show debuted in New York City and since then has been performed at the Tribeca Film Festival, at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, in Greenwich and in New Canaan.

The stroll will also feature a fire pit to warm up people during what is expected to be a cool and fun evening. Stroll events will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit the chamber’s website.
