For the past eight years Chef Renato Donzelli’s goal was to launch a bar that would compliment the restaurant. His dedication and tenacity has finally paid off, having recently been granted a full liquor license.

To celebrate the opening of the modern, recently renovated 60-seater restaurant, located between New Canaan and Norwalk, Donzelli will hold a bar preview party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 that will include cocktails, wines and party bites.

Renato, known for serving outstanding fine dining cuisine, is rewarded by consistently receiving favorable reviews from Zagat and New York Times.

This year, Chef Renato was honored by attending the Greenwich Wine and Food Festival as “Most Innovative Chef” at their opening Gala.

"The bar culture is huge in Europe and because I am a perfectionist with my dishes, I need our wines, beers and cocktails to enhance your dining experience," said Renato. "Now that I am licensed, I look forward to hosting wine pairing dinners and inviting in guest beer and wine experts. Our customers already receive great food and service, so I am especially excited to extend that to our bar.”

Basso Cafe is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 - 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 5 - 10 p.m.
