At The Avon we are also excited to present several other music themed events this summer and fall, including Shelley Archives presentation of Dylan and The Band on Wednesday, August 1. Prior to the screening, the Twifties (the fun people around 50 and up) will host a reception in the downstairs lobby starting at 6:30 p.m. The screening starts at 7:30 p.m.
ABOUT DYLAN AND THE BAND: One of the great collaborations from the 1960s was Bob Dylan’s work with The Band, especially when Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm were part of Dylan’s back-up band from 1965-1966. They worked together on and off after that, and can be seen in The Last Waltz, a documentary of a November 1976 concert (along with footage from other performances). Their range and talent are impressive. Among the songs that will be featured in this show will be Dylan playing, “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and Dylan with The Band playing “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” and “Highway 61 Revisited.” Songs that feature The Band, without Dylan, will include “The Weight,” “Up on Cripple Creek,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” There will also be some surprises, including a Dylan duet with Johnny Cash, singing “Girl From the North Country.” The performances that will be showcased are from rare television
clips, a documentary that was never officially released due to the withdrawal of the television station from the project, and rare concert footage, including from The Isle of Wight.
