"Shrek" brings the story of everyone's favorite ogre to life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess.

The production by the Elmsford-based Random Farms, is made up of 130 young people who are divided into four casts. They come from throughout the tri-state area and have a wealth of theater, film and television experience.

Featured in the show is 10-year-old Elmsford resident, Dahlia White in the role of Donkey, Dobbs Ferry's Juliana Scherer, 9, as the Ugly Duckling and Hastings-On-Hudson's Anya van Hoogstraten, 12, who also plays Donkey.

"I got to see 'Shrek' on Broadway, so I can't believe I'm now getting to do it at Random Farms," van Hoogstraten said about the show.  "I can't wait to see the giant dragon. Being Donkey is really fun.  It can be challenging not to go overboard on the silliness. I talk a mile a minute, just like Donkey.  It's a perfect fit."

Scherer is enjoying being part of a cast and making new friends.

"It's great," Scherer said about being in the show. "I'm making lots of new friends and it's interesting because once I'm friends with them I get to speak with them about their characters."

Dahlia White is looking forward to the reception from audiences.

"Working on this show is so exciting," White said. "I can't wait until opening day to see the looks on the audience's faces because it is going to be an amazing show."

The performances are scheduled for July 26 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., July 27 (1 p.m.), July 28 (1 p.m., August 2 (11 a.m. and 7 p.m.), August 3 and 4 (1 p.m.)

Tickets are $18 (adults), $16 (children under 12 and seniors), $14 (groups of 20+) and $10 (camps). Premium seating tickets (first four rows of center orchestra) are $23.
