NEW CANAAN, Conn. - To benefit the Women’s Mentoring Network of Lower Fairfield County, the Ten Thousand Villages in New Canaan is inviting the community to come out and shop from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
The purchase of a unique handcrafted gift from Ten Thousand Villages will support The Women’s Mentoring Network while improving the livelihoods of women artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Also, 15 percent of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Women’s Mentoring Network, says Shawn Webb, manager of the Ten Thousand Villages store in New Canaan.
The mission of Women's Mentoring Network is to provide career, educational and personal resources that lead to the economic empowerment of low-income women and their families. Since 1990, the network has had a life-changing impact on more than 5,000 women and their families.
Founded in 1990, Women's Mentoring Network is a grassroots organization serving Lower Fairfield County. The agency is nonprofit and is funded through individual contributions, foundations, corporate grants, gifts from community organizations and special events. There are no fees for services. Extensive volunteer participation is an integral component of all programs.
The event is one of many community shopping benefits hosted each year by Ten Thousand Villages. It offers artisan-crafted home decor, jewelry, personal accessories and gift items from around the world.
Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in 38 countries, they are part of a network of more than 150 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.
For more than 60 years, Ten Thousand Villages has established fair, long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans lack opportunities for stable income. All artisans are fairly paid for their products. Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit 501-c3 organization.
