Antonio Burnette, 34, of Southeast DC, was shot and killed on Wednesday, March 29, and a second person hospitalized in a double shooting in the 3000 block of 30th Street, officials announced the following day.

According to Metropolitan Police Commander LaShay Makal, officers were called to the scene on Wednesday afternoon, and inside an apartment they found Burnette and a second victim both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Burnette was treated by first responders and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man was rushed to an area hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, according to officials on Thursday, March 30.

Few details have been given about the shooter or any possible motive, only that it was a Black man who was in a mask caught fleeing from the building, which is nearby two other homicides that have been reported in the area earlier this year.

“I just hope (the community) is as outraged as I am about these brazen acts, and hope we can continue to work in lockstep to reduce gun violence,” Makal said. “The acts of these small number of individuals who are perpetrating brazen violence acts outrages me, and I hope it does the community as well.”

Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting has been asked to contact detectives at the Metropolitan Police Department by calling (202) 727-9099 or the agency’s anonymous text tip line at 50411.
