Detective Sgt. Frank Scott and Detective Michael Kelly noticed that a string of break-ins from December through February had certain similarities, Police Chief Kenneeth Ehrenberg said early this evening.

They homed in on 21-year-old Ahmet Islami after Hawthorne police arrested him Jan. 2 during a local break-in in their town, the chief said.

Islami was arrested at his parent’s home on Monday and charged with a Dec. 16 residential burglary on Godwin Road and another six days later on Mason Place.

He was being held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts each of burglary and theft.
