Among highlights is a chance for visitors to size themselves up next to a humpback whale. Not an actual one, but a life-sized 43-foot inflatable version of the mammal in "Giant Walk-In Whale," is the star of the exhibit in Newman's Own Hall.

“Learning about whales, how big they are, and about whale behavior,  is even more important for Connecticut and New York residents now, because humpback whales have visited Long Island Sound each of the last two summers," noted Dave Sigworth, publicist for the aquarium.

Guests can go inside the whale to see the scale of its internal organs, including its lungs, heart, and stomachs - baleen whales have three stomach compartments.

Other stations offer a "touch" experience to guests to learn how blubber keeps whales warm and why whale populations still haven’t fully recovered from historic whaling practices.

In addition, the IMAX movie through Jan. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is "Humpback Whales." It has scenes of scientists studying how whales communicate, sing, play, feed and care for their young.

The aquarium is located at 10 N Water St., Norwalk
