The BioBlitz will be held from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21. The event is in partnership with the Woodcock Nature Center, Friends of Weir Farm, the Weir Preserve and the Town of Ridgefield Conservation Commission.

The event is being held to commemorate the National Park Service Centennial this year. It is free and open to the public.

During the BioBlitz, teams of scientists and the general public will head out into the park’s woods, gardens, wetlands and fields to discover and document as many living creatures as possible in a single day.

Participants are invited to sketch or paint and are especially encouraged to draw plants and animals found throughout the park as part of the event. Nature walks, art activities and demonstrations, and hikes for kids will be offered throughout the day.

“Combining science, art, and nature, the BioBlitz provides a great opportunity to work alongside leading scientific experts and artists to discover, count, and document the living creatures in the park,” said Linda Cook, superintendent of Weir Farm National Historic Site. “The results will contribute to the park’s official species list and help protect the exceptional biodiversity of the park and nearby Weir Preserve.”

All parking for this event will be off-site at Branchville Elementary School, located at 40 Florida Road in Ridgefield. Shuttles to and from the park will run continuously from 7:40 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The National Parks BioBlitz is organized by the National Park Service and National Geographic Society, with national sponsorship from American Express. To learn more, click here. To learn more and see the schedule of events at the BioBlitz, click here.
