Tuesday, Jan. 22

New Canaan Library Young Critics Club: 6:30 p.m. The New Canaan Library Young Critics book discussion group will discuss “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate. Join librarian Cathy Townsend to discuss this interesting book and enjoy a pizza dinner. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

New Canaan Board of Education: 6:30 p.m. The New Canaan Board of Education will host its regular meeting. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

Wednesday, Jan. 23 New Canaan Town Council: 7:30 p.m. The New Canaan Town Council will have its regular meeting. New Canaan Nature Center, 144 Oenoke Ridge.

New Canaan Library Book Explorers Discussion Group: 4:15 p.m. The Book Explorers discussion group for second- and third-graders will read “Who Was Jim Henson?” by Joan Holub this month. Librarian Miss Marie leads the discussion. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Thursday, Jan. 24. New Canaan Library Friends Film Discussion Group: 7 p.m. The Friends Film Discussion series is a free, fun and lively event. At each discussion, two films will be paired and discussed. Multiple copies of the films are available at the library for viewing prior to the discussion night. This week, the group will discuss “Breaking & Entering” and “Moonrise Kingdom.” Pizza and refreshments will be served. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Friday, Jan. 25

Author David Troxel at New Canaan Library: Noon. David Troxel, noted author and teacher on caring for Alzheimer's patients, will speak. He has become nationally and internationally known for his writing and teaching in the fields of Alzheimer's disease and long-term care. He has co-authored four influential books, most notably “The Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer's Care,” on Alzheimer's care, as well as numerous articles relating to Alzheimer's disease care and staff development and training. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.
