What To Do In New Canaan This Weekend

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Here are a few highlights of things to do in and around New Canaan this weekend. See our Events Calendar for more items.

Friday New Canaan High School Girls’ Basketball: 7 p.m. The New Canaan Rams will host the Staples High School Wreckers at the New Canaan High School Gymnasium, 11 Farm Road.

Saturday Bridgman/Packer Dance at Silvermine Art Center: 7 p.m. “Voyeur” invites audiences into the evocative world of dance and video created by Bridgman | Packer Dance. Collaborators for more than 30 years, choreographer/dancers Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer have developed a highly unique approach to integrating video into their work, making it their third party. “Voyeur” takes the paintings of American painter Edward Hopper as its point of departure. It is paid for in part by the Expeditions program of the New England Foundation of the Arts with additional support from the six New England state arts agencies. Performances also are at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. Silvermine Art Center, 1037 Silvermine Road.

Sunday New Canaan Library Notes In MidWinter Concert Series: 2 p.m. The Notes in MidWinter concert series continues with The Adrian Cunningham Jazz Quartet in a program entitled "The Saxophone:  Its History in Jazz."  The quartet will present a musical journey through the history of popular music, including the great artists Sidney Bechet, Stan Getz, Lester Young and others. Notes in Midwinter is organized and sponsored by the Music Committee of the Friends of the New Canaan Library, chaired by Wendy Kerner. Registration is not required but seating is limited and early arrival is recommended. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Monday Martin Luther King Jr. Day Interfaith Service: 10:30 a.m. The United Methodist Church of New Canaan will host a townwide Interfaith Martin Luther King Day service. This annual event is open to everyone. United Methodist Church of New Canaan, 165 South Ave.
