What's Happening This Weekend in New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A high school musical, a course on tree pruning and live music are some of the events planned for this weekend in New Canaan. 

Friday

• New Canaan High School Theatre Presents “Sweet Charity” in the New Canaan High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $12 for the mezzanine and $15 for the orchestra.

Saturday

• A New York Botanical Garden fruit tree pruning and training workshop will be held at the New Canaan Nature Center from noon to 4 p.m. Hands-on is the best way to learn any physical skill, and fruit tree pruning is no exception. Pruning techniques, with an emphasis on fruit production, are discussed and demonstrated. Try some supervised pruning yourself. Learn about corrective pruning of neglected and poorly managed trees and techniques for effective training of young trees. Several kinds of fruit trees will be discussed. Dress for the weather, wear eye protection and bring lunch. The cost of the class is $81 for nature center members and $90 for non-members.

Sunday

• Jazz music by singer Jody Sandhaus and pianist Peter Malinverni graces the Roger Sherman Inn from 6 to 9 p.m. every Sunday. The evening includes many well-known as well as lesser-known song gems from the Great American Songbook. Sandhaus and Malinverni perform duo style at the inn every Sunday. Reservations for the music room are suggested. For more information, call 203-966-4541.
