Fairfield County Braces For Busy Weekend Of Racing

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Swimmers, bikers and runners will be active all along Fairfield County’s shoreline this weekend with events for all ages in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk and Fairfield.

Saturday’s events are the Swim Across America in Greenwich and Stamford, the Navigators Stamford KIC It Kids Triathlon in Stamford and the Stratton Faxon 5k in Fairfield.  Sunday’s events at the Navigators Stamford KIC It Triathlon and the Stratton Faxon Half Marathon Fairfield.

Proceeds from the Swim Across American support the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy. The swim begins at 7:30 a.m. at Cummings Point in Stamford. Swimmers can chose a half-mile, 1.5-mile or 3-mile option.

At Cove Beach in Stamford, children ages 6 to 13 will begin the Stamford triathlon, which supports Kids In Crisis. Racing begins at 7:30. There are three age groups, and swimming takes place in an Olympic-size pool.

Farther up the coast line in Fairfield will be the 5k, which will begin at 8:15 a.m.

The Stamford triathlon adds a sprint distance event for this year’s race. The Olympic distance race starts at 6:30 a.m. at Cummings Beach, and the sprint distance begins at 6:50 a.m. There will also a Family Festival from 9 a.m. until noon at Mill River Park.

In Norwalk, the Mighty Moss Half Iron Triathlon begins at 6:30 a.m. at Calf Pasture Beach. The race consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run.

The Fairfield Half Marathon begins at 8:15 a.m. at Jennings Beach in Fairfield. The race has sold out for four race years, and continues to be one of the most popular races in the state. The race is Fairfield Firefighters host the race, which supports many Fairfield organizations.
