Fairfield County Couple See Double When Cooking Up Deviled Eggs

NORWALK, Conn. - - The odds of getting a carton-full of double-yolk eggs has got to be high. So says Norwalk resident Maddy Kirshoff who, after finding two yolks in her store-bought eggs, said  maybe she and her boyfriend should have played Powerball.

Kirshoff said, when trying to figure out what to make for dinner, she and Paul Wheatley, opted for their favorite -- deviled eggs.  After hard boiling the eggs they got at Stew Leonard's in Norwalk, and peeling the shells off, they were both shocked --and a little bit freaked out -- to see the fluke.

"I put the egg aside and cut into the next one, opened it up, and there it was again -- two yolks!" she said. "One by one, each egg we opened had two yolks. We were shocked to see that we got 24 yolks out of only 12 eggs!"

After looking it up to see if it was safe to eat, they found it's pretty rare for this to happen -- apparently something like winning the lottery three times, she said.
