Fairfield County's Supporting Role Fades As 'Mad Men' Airs Final Episode

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Well, "Mad Men" fans. This is it. The finale of the AMC show airs Sunday, but not without most likely showcasing, or at least referencing -- cross our fingers -- various Connecticut locales and landmarks.

While Fairfield County hasn't been as prominantly featured as Westchester, with Rye and Ossining getting their 15-plus minutes of fame over the years, Cos Cob and the Metro North train to Greenwich have gotten air-time as well.

Cos Cob was prominantly featured last week when Ad Exec Pete Campbell (played by Vincent Kartheiser) pleads for his wife, Trudy (Alison Brie in real life) to take him back.

Though the series was filmed in Los Angeles, it has included numerous area references including, in the early seasons, locations in and around Ossining where the fictional Draper family lived.

Specific mentions have included the Ossining train station, Tarrytown, the Rockefeller estate/Kykuit, Brookside Elementary School in Ossining, Sing Sing, Carvel in Elmsford, and blink and you may miss it nods to New Rochelle, Buchanan and Larchmont.

It has also included references to Connecticut's famed boarding schools, The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, where character Glen Bishop supposedly went (Creator Matthew Weiner's real-life son Marten), and Miss Porter's School in Farmington, where Sally Draper (Kiernan Shipka) goes.

The good news for those pining for all things "Mad Men" post-finale, the Musuem of Moving Image in Queens features replicas of the show's sets on view through June 14 (see previous Daily Voice story here).
