Now in its 18th year, the Concours d’Elegance gathers classic car collectors from around the northeast in an outdoor juried exhibition. The event is actually two car shows in one. The first day of the show, Saturday, is the Concours Americana, featuring only American-made cars. The second day, called the Concours International, will display imported automobiles.
The showcase is also a large fundraiser, with a portion of the admission fees going to a charity group each year. This year’s beneficiary is AmeriCares, a Stamford-based humanitarian aid organization.
Some favorites turn out for the event each year, but the show also attracts its share of new faces. One of those was Glenn Royals, who brought a 1932 Cord L-29 down from Torrington for the occasion. The classic car belonged to his father, John, who passed away last year.
Though John turned down many requests to have the car featured in the Concours, Glenn decided to enter it this year as a tribute to his father’s love of cars.
“He loved cars—antique cars especially,” Royals said of his father. “And they all had to be convertibles.”
The Concours d’Elegance will be open again Sunday, this time featuring international vehicles. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich. Sunday will also feature a car auction run by Bonham’s Auction House.
