Here's How We Really Feel About The IRS, New Canaan

The results of a 2016 Taxpayer Survey by WalletHub indicate that even though almost half of us will get a refund, more than a quarter of us would get an "IRS" tattoo to have a tax-free future, and 11 percent of us would clean toilets at Chipotle for three years.

Some other fun survey results:

  • When it comes to preparing taxes, almost 50 percent of us would rather make a Thanksgiving dinner for our in-laws, and 35 percent said they'd be willing to talk about sex with their kids. Another 13 percent would be willing to spend the night in jail.
  • The IRS is overwhelmingly unlikeable, with Kayne West, Vladimar Putin and Donald Trump all coming out ahead of Uncle Sam. 
  • Our Biggest Tax Day Fears: Math mistakes are 40 percent scarier than identity theft.
  • Almost 60 percent of us think our tax rate is too high.
  • Even if guaranteed not to get caught, over 80 percent of us wouldn't hide our money in off shore bank accounts.
Tax returns are typically due on April 15 of every year, but the deadline was bumped to April 18 because of Washington, D.C.’s, observance of Emancipation Day on Friday.

The holiday actually falls on Saturday this year, but is observed on Friday, pushing Tax Day to the next business day, which is Monday, April 18.

Emancipation Day marks President Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the District of Columbia Emancipation Act on April 16, 1862. The legislation ended slavery in Washington and freed more than 3,000 people.
